With all the uncertainty of our adoption travel, the barrage of bullying our daughter has been subjected to over the last 3 years, the unwillingness of certain school teachers & administrators to accommodate Ivy’s medical needs, and the unknowns of how everyone is going to transition when our Ghanaian children come home…we have officially decided to pull our daughters out of their current schools to begin educating them at home. That’s right…we are now a homeschooling family! I notified the school district last week and, as of about 20 minutes ago, I ordered our curriculum for the year. Very little about this decision has come easy for us…but it HAD to be done. We spent many months in prayer and research to insure this really is the best move for our family.
We have no doubts that this will be a safer, healthier environment for our children. We are thrilled to be able to choose the curriculum our children will study (but holy cow are there a LOT of choices!!!). We have decided to use LIFEPAC for the core of our studies (Bible, History/Geography, Science, Language Arts & Math) with Horizons Health & Penmanship and supplementing as many living books as possible to really help the kids connect to what they’re learning. A huge advantage is being able to incorporate educational opportunities designed around each child’s individual interests…whatever they might be.
We are so very thankful for the outpouring of love & support we’ve received from so many of our friends.
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it. ~Proverbs 22:6
